Sonny Barger

T-Bird At Ace Cafe

Following the successful release of the cafe's 70th anniversary CD "Bikes n' Leather - Rockin at the Ace!" in 2008, and again working with Cherry Red Records, Ace Cafe London is celebrating both this years 60th anniversary of the legendary Triumph Thunderbird motorcycle and the iconic cars from Ford that carry the same evocative name, with a tie up to debut Cherry Red's new T-Bird label, specialising in the little heard early sounds of rock n' roll, ranging from The Rip Chords and The Hondells to Carl Perkins and Eddie Cochran.

We have up to 100 (a Ton!) T-Bird CD's to give away as awards and prizes over the next few months, starting on occasion of the cafe's 17th annual Ace Cafe Reunion. Saturday 11th September there will be prizes for the "Best Ridden Cafe Racer" and "Best Triumph Thunderbirds" to include pre-unit, unit, and Hinckley built models.

Eravamo Giovani In Vietnam

«Questo è il racconto di cosa facemmo, vedemmo e patimmo durante una campagna nella valle del fiume Ia Drang, sugli altipiani centrali del Vietnam del Sud, nel novembre 1965. Eravamo i figli degli anni Cinquanta, giovani seguaci di John Kennedy, e andammo dove ci avevano mandato. Oggi, i nostri volti di giovani ormai vecchi, scavati dalle febbri e dalle notti insonni, ci fissano impietriti, come estranei sperduti e dannati, dalle foto ingiallite che abbiamo conservato in scatole di cartone. Noi sappiamo cos’è stato il Vietnam, e come sembravamo, e agivamo, e parlavamo, e odoravamo. In America pare che non lo sappia nessun altro. E allora per una volta, una volta sola, bisogna dire: è cominciato così, era così. Alla fine i morti non si sono rialzati. I feriti non si sono sciacquati le piaghe per riprendere a vivere come se niente fosse. Nessuno di noi ha lasciato il Vietnam uguale a prima. Questo racconto è il nostro testamento. È il nostro tributo ai ragazzi americani che ci sono morti accanto, e alle centinaia di ragazzi dell’Armata del popolo morti in quella giungla. Questa è la nostra storia e la loro.
